Sagamore-homebred honored by Maryland Horse Breeders Association

Glyndon, Md. — Sagamore Racing today announced that Walkwithapurpose has been named the 2013 Champion Maryland-Bred 3-Year-Old Filly by the Maryland Horse Breeders Association (MHBA), as awarded on Monday, February 24.

“Sagamore Farm is honored and humbled to receive word of the championship honors awarded to Walkwithapurpose. Hats off to the other nominees in the division. Sagamore certainly holds the Haydens, Litzs and Mr. Dresher in high esteem,” said Sagamore Racing general manager, Tom Mullikin. “It’s a long road from planning the mating, to caring for the mare, to raising and finally to training. Congratulations to everyone within the Sagamore program, and our staff that was there for every step of the way. Walkwithapurpose always showed her true grit on the track and always made us proud when she carried the Sagamore colors.”

The Sagamore homebred filly by Candy Ride (ARG), out of Lightning Lydia, by Broad Brush, went 3-2-0-1 with earnings of $190,000 in 2013. In her 3-Year-Old season, Walkwithapurpose won the Wide Country Stakes in February 2013, followed by an impressive win in March, capturing the Ceaser’s Wish Stakes and earning herself a five-win streak at Laurel Park. Walkwithapurpose traveled to New York in April where she finished third in the Grade II Gazelle Stakes at Aqueduct. The filly has since retired and is currently booked to Curlin, winner of back-to-back American Horse of the Year awards in 2007 and 2008. The Sagamore Racing team is excited to watch her flourish in her new breeding career.

“Walkwithapurpose was all heart. We could not be more proud of that little filly. She was a pleasure to watch and we could not be happier with her,” said Sagamore Racing trainer, Ignacio Correas IV.
