The Travers is known as the “Midsummer Derby” and is the oldest major Thoroughbred race in America,
and while all eyes will be on Triple Crown winner American Pharoah as he continues his hunt for the Breeder’s
Cup, Sagamore Racing will also aim for a significant win during the Travers Day races on Saturday, August 29 at Saratoga Race Couse. Amidst the series of six Grade 1 stakes races, Sagamore Racing’s Commute has his
sights set on the $500,000 Grade 1 NYRA.com King’s Bishop Stakes.
“This is obviously a huge step up in class for us,” said Hunter Rankin, President of Sagamore Racing.
“Commute has trained well at Churchill and Saratoga, and Mark Casse, Mr. Grossberg and the Sagamore Team are looking forward to the challenge.”
Under shared ownership between Sagamore Racing and Gabe Grossberg, the 3-year-old colt by Hold Me Back, out of Royal Humor, by Distorted Humor, is scheduled to run at 3:47 p.m. EST in Race 8 at Saratoga Race Course. Looking to extend his winning streak, Commute is coming off a convincing five-length victory in Race 8 at Churchill Downs on June 9.
Under jockey Shaun Bridgmohan and trainer Mark Casse, Commute enters Traver’s Day with a 6-2-1-1 career record with $86,190 in earnings to date.
